Around the 90 ft diamond

Bases sit 90 ft apart. The outfield fence is drawn as a coaching measure, not as a fixed league wall. Drawing is free without an account. A free account saves the diagram.

Shift

The shift diagram moves infielders off their usual bags toward the pull side. It is a ready alignment, not a pitch call.

Bunt

The bunt diagram shows the batter square and the corners charging. First and third start in on the 90 ft diamond.

Cutoff and wheel

The cutoff diagram places the infielder between the outfielder and the plate. The wheel turns the relay so the trail runner is the play.

Ready diagrams

  • Shift

All nine fielders are placed with the infielders repositioned for the batter's hitting tendency. Under current MLB rules two infielders must stay on each side of second base, so check your league rules.

  • Bunt

The pitcher, first baseman and third baseman charge toward the plate while the catcher covers. Use it when you expect a sacrifice bunt.

  • Cutoff

The centre fielder throws to the shortstop, who lines up between the outfield and home plate. Use it to stop a runner taking an extra base.

  • Wheel

With a runner on first, the second baseman rotates over to cover first base. Use it to organise bunt defence when the corners charge.
