Tactics board

Rugby pitch tactics board

Pack the 1-3-3-1, carry the crash ball into contact, lift the lineout and kick the exit. The pitch includes the in-goal.

World Rugby 100×70 m plus 10 m in-goal. Set a 1-3-3-1, a lineout and an exit kick on the full pitch.

Attack into the in-goal

The board is a World Rugby pitch with the in-goal behind each try line. Drawing is free without an account. A free account is required to save.

1-3-3-1 shape

One forward pod, two lines of three and a fullback sit on the published shape. Move them before the first phase.

Crash ball

The crash-ball diagram is a short carry off the scrum-half into the fringe defence. It is one phase, not the whole shape.

Lineout and exit kick

The lineout diagram sets the lifting pod and the jumper. The exit kick starts in the in-goal or under the posts and finds touch.

Ready diagrams

  • 1-3-3-1

The scrum-half stands at the base, three backs form the first line, the wings spread to the touchlines and the fullback sits deep. Use it to show width and depth before you add forward pods.

  • Crash ball

The scrum-half passes and the inside centre carries straight into the defending flanker. Use it to win the gain line and set up quick ruck ball.

  • Lineout

Four attackers stand in the line with two opposing jumpers, and the throw goes to the middle jumper. Use it to plan the jumper, the lift and the delivery to the scrum-half.

  • Exit kick

The scrum-half box-kicks toward the touchline and the fullback chases while the opposing wing waits. Use it to leave your own 22 under pressure.
