Handball 6-0 tactics board

Line the 6-0 up in front of the 6 m area, or step the 3-2-1 off it. The fast break and the wing cross are separate diagrams. A 5-1 can be drawn, but it is not a ready diagram.

IHF 40×20 m court, 6 m goal area and 9 m line. Plan a 6-0, a fast break and a wing cross around the goal area.

Defence in front of the 6 m area

The court is 40×20 m with the 6 m goal area and the 9 m line. Use the half court for the defence and the full court for the break.

6-0 defence

Six defenders stand on the 6 m line and the goalkeeper fills the goal. The ready diagram is this flat line, not a 5-1.

3-2-1 defence

Three players stay on the line, two step out and one meets the ball. Use it when the 6-0 is too deep for the shooter.

Fast break and wing cross

The fast break runs the wing and the middle on the full court. The wing cross is a half-court pass from the side into the 9 m.

Ready diagrams

  • 6-0

Six court players defend the 6 m goal area in front of the goalkeeper, with the two outer defenders slightly higher. Coaches use it to close central gaps against strong back-court shooters.

  • Fast break

After a turnover the wing sprints the length of the court and the centre throws the long pass ahead of the last defender. Use it to train the first pass and the running lane before the defence gets back.

  • 3-2-1

Three defenders stay on the 6 m line, two step out to the 9 m line and one advanced defender meets the ball. It disrupts passing between back-court players when they set up far from goal.

  • Wing cross

The left wing passes inside to the back-court player at the 9 m line while a third attacker holds the far side. Use it to move the ball from the corner into a shooting position.
