Leave the zone on the breakout, swing the cycle low, sit in the box and attack the power play. Blue lines split the IIHF rink.

IIHF 60×30 m rink, blue lines and face-off circles. Plan breakouts, forechecking systems and power-play formations on a full ice hockey rink.

Using the blue lines

The rink is the IIHF 60×30 m sheet with both blue lines. Open the full rink for the breakout. Drawing needs no account. A free account saves it.

Breakout

The breakout diagram shows the first pass off the boards and the support through the neutral zone. It starts behind the defensive blue line.

Cycle

The cycle keeps the puck low along the boards in the offensive zone. Wingers and the centre exchange until a lane opens.

Box and power play

The box is the four-player penalty kill in a square. The power-play diagram is the extra-attacker setup inside the offensive blue line.

Ready diagrams

  • Breakout

The left defenceman passes up the boards to the left wing while the centre supports through the middle. Use it to leave the defensive zone against two forecheckers.

  • Cycle

The right wing carries the puck low along the boards and passes back to the left wing as the centre rotates. Use it to keep possession deep in the offensive zone until a shooting lane opens.

  • Box

Four penalty killers form a square in front of the net against two points and a net-front player. Use it while short-handed to keep shots to the outside.

  • Power play

Two points, a centre in the slot, a wing and a net-front player attack three defenders, and the pass goes from the point into the slot. Use it with the extra skater to create a one-timer.
