Breakout The left defenceman passes up the boards to the left wing while the centre supports through the middle. Use it to leave the defensive zone against two forecheckers.

Cycle The right wing carries the puck low along the boards and passes back to the left wing as the centre rotates. Use it to keep possession deep in the offensive zone until a shooting lane opens.

Box Four penalty killers form a square in front of the net against two points and a net-front player. Use it while short-handed to keep shots to the outside.

Power play Two points, a centre in the slot, a wing and a net-front player attack three defenders, and the pass goes from the point into the slot. Use it with the extra skater to create a one-timer.
