Coverage is where your own players stand when your hitter attacks. Most of the replay balls land close to the net.

Around the hitter

Two players cover just behind the attacker, low and close. One stays deeper. Draw those three spots for a left-side attack first. The setter is often one of the close cover players.

The block touch

A ball off the block comes back fast and short. The arrow from the hitter should stop at the block, and a short arrow should return to the cover. That return is the point of the diagram.

Other pins

A right-side attack and a middle attack need their own pictures. Duplicate this play and move the cover. Do not draw all three attacks on one court.

Frequently asked questions

What is attack coverage in volleyball?

Attack coverage is where your players stand when your own hitter attacks, ready for a ball that comes back off the block. Most of those balls land close to the net.

How do you diagram coverage on a tactics board?

Place the hitter, two low players just behind the attack, and one deeper defender. Draw the attack into the block and a short arrow back to the cover.

Should every attack pin have its own coverage play?

Yes. A left-side attack, a middle attack and a right-side attack need their own saved plays. Duplicate the first one and move the cover.
